I was flipping through the Ben Stein book How to Ruin Your Life and saw a chapter titled “Never Accept Any Responsibility for Anything That Goes Wrong”. I took the time to read it and what his thoughts were on it. I recently had been thinking about this because of recent events in my personal life. I find it very interesting how things like this fall into you lap around the time that you need them or just went through something.
I have learned that no matter what happens in life that is a problem is never solely one person’s responsibility. No matter if it is something simple or something large. This principle carries over to relationships you have with other people, whether it be just in a friendship or significant other. If there is more than one party involved they both play into the result of what happens, good or bad.
When someone doesn’t take responsibility for there actions they are not learning from what happened. No matter the outcome of something you should always be able to learn from what happened and try to do it better if another chances comes by. You must always be looking for ways to grow yourself in life. If you don’t take responsibility for your actions you are preventing yourself from growing. Also it is a good sign of immaturity. The more mature person in life can accept their faults with successes, side-by-side and own up to them.
Push yourself in life. Don’t just accept having a mediocre life. Learn from what you have done and haven’t done. Learn from other people’s choices. Find people who can help you be a better person. Have positive influences in your life. Become a positive influence in other people’s lives. They say you will become like what you surround yourself with. So the logically sound thing to do would be is to surround yourself with smart and beautiful people right?
Now go and make the changes you need to make with your life today. Today is the day for change. Yesterday is the day of regret so focus on today. Remember that if you say I will do it tomorrow you are failing yourself and those around you because procrastination doesn’t fix anything-long term.
